MicroSense is a spin-off division of a well established, multibillion dollar leader in the field of precision metrology tools and equipment. With a 40 year history and the existing senior management team continuing to guide the company, and with solid financial backing from a well known private equity firm, the company is poised for exciting growth and expansion. Part of this growth plan includes the addition of a senior Analog Design Engineer to join the existing R&D team. The Senior Electrical Engineer will be a key member of the product design/development team and an integral contributor to the future growth of the company as they expand into new markets with new products.
SCOPE:
The Sr Analog Design Engineer will be actively involved in the design and development of new products as well as the development of product extensions and enhancements of existing products.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Specifies, designs, implements, tests, and prototypes products, components and subsystems of high complexity, primarily electronic products, as well as simple mechanical products.
- Designs sensors, analog electronics for sensors and sensor systems, modulation/demodulation schemes, mixed-signal circuitry utilizing low-noise, high-resolution A/Ds, and hardware/software digital data processing utilizing MPU's, CPUs, and DSP's, FPGA's, and CPLD's.
- Uses Matlab or MathCAD, and/or other computer tools conducive to designing and developing digital signal processing schemes.
- Uses a multidisciplinary approach to solving engineering problems.
- Solves technical manufacturing problems.
- Generates test procedures, calibration procedures, ECOs, and all necessary drawings.
- Troubleshoots analog and digital circuitry using oscilloscopes, DVM’s, logic analyzers.
- Provides technical assistance to customers and sales staff.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & SKILLS:
· BS in Electrical Engineering or Physics; MS preferred.
· Expertise in analog circuit design is required.
· Minimum 5 to 10 years experience in designing electronic and electro-mechanical components and systems; experience with sensors and/or mechanical subassemblies is ideal.
· Solid understanding of metrology is preferred.
· Industry experience in one or several of the following: semiconductor, data storage, solar is a plus.
· Knowledgeable in analog, mixed-signal, and digital electronics.
- Able to implement simple mechanical designs.
- Strong mathematical skills is required; experience with MathCad, Mathlab or some other mathematical computer tool is essential
- Hands-on; good at building and prototyping.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
· Reads, writes, and speaks English, and can read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
· Able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
· Can effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, peers, and customers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
· Comprehends and applies principles of calculus and algebra.
· Is able to apply mathematical concepts to engineering problems such as data analysis and mathematical modeling of circuits and mechanical systems.
REASONING ABILITY:
· Applies principles of logical and scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
· Understands and uses nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc).
